          path-n-pedal.com

Formed in 2004 as a response to perceived discrimination against local cyclists, Path-N-Pedal (P-N-P) has since gone on to attract many to join in the campaign for a better deal for cycling in Sefton and  Lancs County (membership now over 300!).

Whilst the great majority are cyclists, it's worth noting that pedestrians and disabled also figure amongst our number.  We’d like to think that our presence and on-going lobbying of Councillors, Cycling Officers, United Utilities, Police Chiefs, M.P’s, Dept for Transport, The Treasury, various Ministers, local media etc, has helped Southport to achieve it's 'Cycle Town' status.

The idea that cyclists could form into a group and get something done about the state of our cycleway network was originated during a cycling visit to The Netherlands.  It was discovered that there was a ’fietsersbond’ which translates as a ’cyclists union’.  One look at the outstanding Dutch network of cycle-ways, safeguarded by a strong cycling organisation,  was enough to convince that something similar was badly needed here.

Our Founding Aims:

THIS GROUP AIMS TO IMPROVE THE ENVIRONMENT FOR THE BENEFIT OF ALL FOOTPATH AND CYCLEWAY USERS AND IN PARTICULAR TO:

React against discrimination by the authorities in favour of the motorcar.

Make  Local Authorities and Utilities maintain all surfaces walked or ridden on to a high standard - no more potholes or broken glass if you please!

* Press for cleaner air and a safer environment.

Stop motorists dangerous habits of leaving many vehicles fly-parked on kerbs pavements and of course cycle-lanes.

Make Local Authorities give us better and safer cycle-lanes of a decent width on all  the high-traffic routes.

Be otherwise active in freeing-up town centres from motor traffic at long last, returning the tranquility to these areas.

Promote and encourage more cycling and walking.

Stop the terrifying and often dangerous attacks by loose dogs on cyclists and those on foot.

Provide members with help about any cycling or related problem.
